Old Power Plant

Although construction was halted in 1914 with the outbreak of war, when the "Double Lab" opened the next year it not only supplied the University's power but held medical laboratories as well. A newer generation of students knows the Power Plant as the site of a popular pub and restaurant.

The Ring House I

The home of five University presidents over the years, this house was one of 10 builts in the University's early years to serve as homes for its senior faculty members. Used as an art gallery in the '70s and '80s, today it holds the offices of Museums and Collections Services and Learning Systems Enterprises.

Athabasca Hall

Built in 1911, for many years Athabasca Hall was the centre of campus, serving as residence, classroom, laboratory, office, library, and dining room. Renovated in 1977, it currently houses University Offices but remains a touchstone for generations of former students.

Rutherford South

Named for Alexander Rutherford, Alberta's first premier and founder of the University of Alberta, Rutherford Library opened in 1951. The original building is today joined by an atrium to the newer humanities and social sciences library to the north.

Résidence Saint-Jean

Se forger des souvenirs et un avenir. Construit en 1910, le bâtiment de la Résdience Saint-Jean représente un monument central dans l'histoire de l'éducation francophone de l'Alberta et de l'Ouest canadiene.

Rutherford House

This stately 1910 mansion was originally named "Achmacarry" after the ancestral Scottish home of University founder Alexander Rutherford. The former premier lived in the house until 1940, when it became the Delta Upsilon Fraternity house. Rutherford House remained a fraternity house until 1973, when it became a provincial historic site.

Dentistry/Pharmacy Centre

First known as the Medical Science Building when it opened in 1921, this building has also accommodated studies in pharmacy, dentistry, and dental hygiene over the years and has now been renamed the Dendistry/Pharmacy Centre to reflect its current tenancy.
